GAINESVILLE, Fla. (WCJB) - A career defined by a stellar game on the court and controversy off of it

Former Florida standout guard Vernon Maxwell is back at the top of the program’s all time scoring chart after his junior and senior seasons were restored by the University Athletic Association on Thursday

Maxwell was a key figure during an NCAA investigation. Florida had to vacate two NCAA tournament wins in 1987 and one win in 1988.

Former UF Athletic Director Bill Arnsparger stripped Maxwell of all of his stats during his junior and senior seasons before having his numbers reinstated on Thursday.

“Vernon Maxwell is one of the greatest players ever to wear a Gator uniform. You could not write the history of Florida basketball without him” Scott Stricklin, UF Athletic Director, said.
