SPRING VALLEY — Perseverance doesn’t necessarily show up on the score sheet, but it’s often as important as anything that does.
Winfield persevered Thursday for a 2-1 victory over Hurricane to open a high school volleyball tri-match at Spring Valley. The Generals won 31-29, 23-25, 15-12.
Winfield rallied from a 4-0 deficit in the third set. It trailed 10-9 before Mila Herscher, daughter of coach Jennifer Herscher and former Marshall football player Gavin Herscher, tied it with a smash to the back line. She then scored on a block to put the Generals ahead 11-10. They never trailed after that.
Herscher added an ace to make it 14-11. Brooklyn Cole ended the match with a block.
Winfield won a hotly contested first set 31-29.
