WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) - More than $100,000 was up for grabs at a United Way-hosted event on Thursday night.

Impact on the Plains is a fast-paced “Shark Tank”-style event put on by the United Way of the Plains.

Four nonprofits pitched big ideas for a chance at winning part of $105,000 in funding. We talked with the runner-up from the contest who took home $30,000 for her idea.

She said the money will go toward helping students who don’t speak English learn how to manage their finances.

“I’m pitching the idea of a bilingual financial literacy simulation,” Niki Childers said. “So students, newcomer students, can not only learn about financial literacy, but they can do it in their language so they can better help understand how to navigate this new world they’re in and hopefully go home and
