Two Assam Rifles jawans were killed and several others injured on Friday evening when unidentified gunmen ambushed a security convoy near Nambol Sabal Leikai under Nambol police station in Bishnupur district.

The attack took place around 5.50 pm when the vehicle carrying 33 Assam Rifles personnel was moving from Imphal towards Bishnupur. The injured were rushed to nearby hospitals, where one of them remains in critical condition.

Former Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh condemned the attack in strong terms, calling it a “cruel blow” to the state. “I am deeply shaken to hear about the ambush on our brave 33 Assam Rifles personnel at Nambol Sabal Leikai. The loss of two jawans and injuries to several others is a cruel blow to us all,” he said in a post on X.
