Starting Friday, Devils Backbone Brewing Company in Nelson County is set to offer fans a springboard into an entertaining weekend. And an underhand chop, standing block chop and hot saw, too.

The Lumberjack Classic has invited leading timbersports competitors from as far afield as Canada and the Czech Republic to the Devils Backbone Basecamp in Roseland starting at 4 p.m. Friday and 11:30 a.m. Saturday.

Lumberjacks and lumberjills ply for prizes at Devils Backbone contest

Friday’s events are set to begin at 4 p.m. with teams of two lumberjacks and one lumberjill vying in a relay race involving an 18-inch single buck cut, standing block chop and underhand chop. A camper happy hour is scheduled to start at 6:30 p.m., followed by karaoke at 7 p.m.
