The City of Fremantle is sticking to its guns and pushing ahead with expanding the South Beach carpark despite opposition from residents.
Parking at South Beach is being upgraded and increased as part of the city’s infrastructure improvement program and a revamp of the area, which includes new changerooms.
Car park extensions were not specified in the city’s South Beach place plan but city staff decided to do them now in tandem with other works to minimise disruption.
The works will create an extra 68 car bays: 12 in the northern car park and 54 and two ACROD bays in the southern car park.
They are intended to relieve the pressure on neighbouring recreation reserve Wilson Park, which has been used as overflow parking.
