BOSTON —

Teamsters members and Republic Services reached a deal Friday to end a trash collection strike that lasted more than 11 weeks and affected more than a dozen communities in Greater Boston.

Local 25 union members started their strike in pursuit of higher wages and better benefits on July 1. The union voted to continue the strike in early August.

Republic said it reached a five-year deal with the union, but no other details of the contract were immediately released.

"We appreciate the community’s patience during this service interruption and apologize for the inconvenience it has caused. We worked hard to reach a mutual agreement that restores the high level of service expected by customers in Greater Boston," a Republic spokesperson said.
