Penguins president of hockey operations Kyle Dubas openly talked this offseason about the possibility of trading away Bryan Rust, a top-line winger and team leader.
Dubas had an opportunity Thursday to turn down the volume on the trade chatter around Rust and other veterans, but instead he said the Penguins “would look at anything” on the trade market if it was the right thing for the team in the long run.
“Regardless of what that creates on the rumor front or anything like that, we’re always looking for ways to help propel the team back to where we want to get to,” Dubas said before the start of training camp. “So that work really doesn’t stop.”
Rust was asked about hearing his name in trade speculation all summer. He was able to laugh about it, but recognizes it is a real possibility
