STOWE, Vt. (WCAX) - Authorities were called to rescue a dog from the Long Trail in Stowe Thursday night.
Stowe Mountain Rescue says the dog and her owner had taken an all-day hike to Sterling Pond, and on the way back, the dog stopped and refused to move.
Rescuers used a sling to carry the dog out. They say the dog was exhausted and maybe dehydrated, too. They add that the owner was committed to staying the night with the pup if he’d had to and was otherwise prepared.
They say it’s a good reminder to pay close attention to your dog’s body language and look for signs that they’re tired or thirsty.
They say dogs, like humans, also need training to work up to longer hikes.
