Urban Alchemy, a nonprofit homeless service provider that operates at least four city-funded village-style shelters in Portland along with a new outdoor day center , is facing problems in two other cities.
San Francisco officials accused the company of having “knowingly overspent” hundreds of thousands on pay bumps last fiscal year, according to the San Francisco Chronicle . The excess spending, revealed at a Wednesday San Francisco City Council meeting, could jeopardize Urban Alchemy’s $22.7 million contract to run a homeless shelter there, according to the Chronicle.
