College Station, Tx (FOX 44) - Chancellor Glenn Hegar and the Texas A&M University System Board of Regents have announced that Mark Welsh will step down from his role as President of Texas A&M University, effective Friday September 19 at 5 p.m.

The Student Government Association issued a statement saying he was expected to leave the administration building shortly before noon and encouraged students to gather on the steps about 11:30 to show their support.

The departure follows the controversy that arose following the release of viral video that captured a tense exchange as a Texas A&M University student was kicked out of class after objecting to transgender indoctrination and voicing their religious beliefs.
