(KRON) -- Two Sebastopol men were arrested in connection to the homicide of Mollie Schefer. The 47-year-old woman and her dog were shot to death inside Schefer's Santa Rosa home on Cecilia Drive, police said.

Santa Rosa Police Department officers found Schefer's body in a staircase leading up to the second floor of her home around 4:30 a.m. on September 9. She had been shot twice in the chest, police said. In addition to the deceased dog, officers also found a second dog suffering from a gunshot wound that was still alive.

Officers were initially called to the victim's house that morning because a neighbor heard several gunshots and called 911. Investigators found a shattered sliding glass door.
