The injury status of Philadelphia Phillies shortstop Trea Turner could have a drastic impact on the power dynamics of the National League playoff race.
Turner suffered a hamstring strain on Sept. 7 running out a ground ball against the Miami Marlins. He was still, as of Friday, leading the NL in hits and batting average, perhaps in the middle of the best season of his career when factoring in defense.
Obviously, playing even a single playoff game without Turner would put the Phillies at a major disadvantage. Even bringing him back into the lineup cold for the first playoff game without any at-bats in the regular season to knock off the rust would be less than ideal.
Fortunately for Philadelphia, it sounds like there is at least a decent chance the Phillies could avoid both scenarios.
