RUTHERFORD COUNTY, Tenn. (WSMV) - School resource officers (SROs) are getting behind the wheel to teach students to drive in Rutherford County.

The Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office (RCSO) said that the two-session course is open to all students and free. Students who attend public schools are welcome to sign up, as well as homeschool and virtual school students.

Participants will take an online Defensive Response Improving Vehicle Education class from 4:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. on Friday. The next day, students will drive with an SRO on a course from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.

There are three openings in SRO Chad Dodson’s upcoming October 24 and 25 course, per a Facebook post from the sheriff’s office.
