VICTORIA — Assistant Commissioner David Teboul, a senior officer in the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) in British Columbia, has been charged with multiple counts of assault while off-duty. The charges have prompted the appointment of a special prosecutor to oversee the case.
The British Columbia Prosecution Service announced that Teboul, who serves as the Pacific Region commander, faces allegations of assault and assault by choking against one individual, as well as a separate count of assault against another person. These charges stem from incidents that reportedly occurred in Abbotsford on July 2.
Teboul was formally charged in provincial court on Thursday. His initial court appearance is set for October 9 in Abbotsford.
To ensure the integrity of the legal process, the prosecution service has appointed a special prosecutor. This measure is intended to prevent any potential for real or perceived improper influence on the justice system. Vancouver lawyer Andi MacKay was designated to this role on August 20.
