MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — It would hardly be an exaggeration to say Grayson Barnes is coming off one of his better weeks.
The West Virginia tight end was instrumental in helping the Mountaineers rally for a 31-24 overtime victory in last week’s Backyard Brawl against Pitt, a contest in which Barnes caught a tying 2-yard touchdown with 11 seconds remaining among his five receptions for 58 yards.
Two days later, Barnes became engaged to his girlfriend, Haley Simmons, during a Monday proposal at Cooper’s Rock.
“It was kind of my plan the past few months,” Barnes said. “I asked her dad for a blessing after we graduated from NIU. That’s been my plan, kind of do it wherever God will take us and it was a beautiful view. Morgantown, the city, everything is beautiful. It’s so green here. We loved it.
