COLLEGE PARK, Md. (DC News Now) -- Two buildings at the University of Maryland (UMD) College Park were treated after lice were found, officials said Friday.
In an email notice sent to students and staff, UMD's Health Center said that there was evidence of body lice in McKeldin Library and Kirwan Hall.
McKeldin Library's fourth floor was treated for lice, and Kirwan Hall's 0304 restroom was treated for lice.
Officials said that these cases were localized and had been fully remedied.
The Health Center said that body lice are typically spread through direct contact with someone who has them. They can also sometimes spread through contact with clothes or beds that belong to someone who has them.
Symptoms of body lice include rashes, itching and bite marks.
