RICHMOND, Va. (WWBT)—The ‘Virginia’s MIA: The Search Continues’ exhibit highlights just a few of the thousands of Virginians who are missing in action or are prisoners of war.

Some of the family members of the soldiers shown in this exhibit say the unveiling was bittersweet.

“You don’t forget something, especially when that army officer makes that knock on the door to tell you the bad news,” said Sharon Deane.

Deane is the daughter of William Deane, a soldier who was declared missing in action in 1973, during the Vietnam War.

“It was only three weeks before the Paris Peace Treaties that the last helicopter that my father was on was shot down by a land-to-air missile,” said Deane.

She shared documents, photos, and a few of her father’s items left behind for the exhibit.
