ROSELAND, La. — The Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality (LDEQ), in coordination with the Louisiana Department of Health (LDH) and the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries (LDWF), has begun seafood testing for potential contamination from the recent fire at Smitty’s Supply in Roseland.

The sampling started on Thursday and focuses on seafood caught in the Tangipahoa River and in Lake Pontchartrain near the river’s mouth.

Officials say the goal is to evaluate whether runoff from the fire has impacted seafood consumed locally.
