The Rockingham County Sheriff's Office has charged two men after a brief high-speed chase and manhunt along U.S. Highway 220 Thursday during which one man fired gunshots at deputies, according to Sheriff Sam Page.
Michael Seth Chilton, 32, of 8506 Belews Creek Road in Stokesdale, is charged with two felony counts of assault on a law enforcement officer with a firearm and one felony count of flee and elude.
Timothy Lee Williams, 30, of Stoneville, is charged with one felony count of flee and elude, arrest warrants show.
“In this day and time, the worst thing you can hear as a sheriff is someone attempting to do harm to a deputy, or any law enforcement officer, while performing their duties,” Page said.
