The Taliban has freed an elderly British couple held in Afghanistan for more than seven months on charges which were never revealed.

Peter and Barbie Reynolds, whose health was said to be deteriorating rapidly, have flown to Qatar, which helped secure their release.

The couple had lived in Afghanistan for 18 years, running an education and training organisation in Bamyan province.
