The death of 21-year-old Demartravion “Trey” Reed has deeply affected everyone. The Delta State University student was found hanging from a tree on campus earlier this week.

Officials quickly called it a suicide, but his family doesn’t believe the story adds up. Civil rights attorney Ben Crump has since announced that former NFL star Colin Kaepernick will step in to fund an independent autopsy.

Kaepernick’s Know Your Rights Camp will cover the costs through its Autopsy Initiative. The move comes as Reed’s family says they received conflicting details about how he died. At first, officers told them he was found in his dorm room. Later, the media reported that his body was discovered hanging from a tree.
