Alabama Sen. Katie Britt is spearheading a bipartisan effort to reunite Ukrainian families by demanding the return of more than 19,500 children taken by Russia since the war began three years ago.

Britt, joined by senators Lindsey Graham, Richard Blumenthal, and Amy Klobuchar, introduced a measure threatening to label Russia as a state sponsor of terrorism if they do not return the children.

"I saw it and took it to Senator Graham just to say these kids deserve somebody to fight for them," Britt said.

Lawmakers emphasized the urgency of the situation, arguing children should not be used as weapons of war. They believe this measure has a strong chance of passing due to Russia's actions being described as "historic and repulsive" war crimes.
