HOUSTON — A tiny kitten is safe and sound after firefighters in Atascocita, Texas, pulled it from a storm drain last weekend.
According to Atascocita Fire Department spokesperson Jerry Dillard, a group of joggers called 911 after hearing faint cries coming from a storm drain along Kings River Road.
When firefighters from Station 19 got there, they confirmed the sound was a kitten in distress. Crews worked quickly to remove two manhole covers before two firefighters carefully helped push the kitten out of the sewer.
Dillard said the kitten is believed to be about 4 weeks old. A veterinarian examined it, and it is doing well.
Firefighter Palmer, who played a key role in the rescue, gave the kitten a forever home and a fitting name: “Stormy.”
