SUMMERVILLE — A man is facing multiple charges for allegedly shooting his wife after he initially told police he accidentally shot her while cleaning his gun.
Officers responded to the Lakes of Summerville neighborhood around 3:15 p.m., Sept. 18, according to a news release from police.
When they arrived, they spoke with the man, Billy Portis Jr., who told them he had shot his wife while cleaning his firearm.
Officers found her inside the home with a gunshot wound to the face.
According to Portis’ arrest affidavit, his wife told investigators at a hospital that she and her husband were having a verbal argument over alleged infidelity when he threatened her with the gun.
She didn’t remember anything after that, the affidavit said.
