Polk County and its former human resources director have rested their cases, leaving it to a Dallas County jury to decide whether elected leaders defamed him when he was fired five years ago.
Jim Nahas, who led Polk County's personnel office from 2014 to 2020, was fired after a series of investigations involving alleged vulgar and threatening statements made by the county board chair Matt McCoy during a meeting with Nahas and another county employee. A female official who was in an office next to the meeting room reported overhearing the comments, which she believed were directed at her.
