CLAXTON, Tenn. (WATE) — Governor Bill Lee said we were watching history unfold in East Tennessee while visiting the Tennessee Valley Authority’s decommissioned Bull Run Fossil Plant in Claxton.

Friday, TVA made an announcement sharing its plan to partner with Type One Energy to build the United States' first commercial stellarator fusion power plant at the site.

“What is happening in this part of the state, in this community, and in this region feels like significant history being written,” said Lee.

After decommissioning Bull Run in 2023 and imploding two smokestacks on the site earlier this year, TVA’s president and CEO, Don Moul, said their new partnership continues to move nuclear innovation forward.
