EVANS, Ga. (WJBF)- A Lakeside High School teacher who was fired and arrested is now getting support from students.

Jerry Meitin is charged with terroristic threats and acts after being accused of threatening to shoot students.

He is no longer employed with the Columbia County School District.

Warrants allege that Jerry Meitin “threatened to shoot multiple students if he had a gun”.

But some of his current and former students are in shock, and they’re defending the teacher they say had a big influence on their lives.

“Mr. Meitin is awesome. Like other students have said, he’s one of the most passionate teachers at Lakeside," said Hannah Liebel.
