Foremost energy expert Aidan Morrison has labelled modelling from the Australian Energy Market Commission as “odd” and “bizarre” after Energy Minister Chris Bowen used it to justify the government’s contentious 2035 emission reduction target.

Prime Minister Anthony Albanese defended his government’s “ambitious” new climate target on Friday and said reducing emissions by between 62 and 70 per cent by 2035 was both an economic necessity and a cost-of-living measure.

"We want to make sure that we address the living standards and cost of living. The advantage of solar panels with batteries is that it's doing both. And that is why 60,000 people since July 1 have taken up our batteries rebate policy,” the Prime Minister said in Melbourne.
