GULFPORT, Miss. (ABC4) -- A Mississippi man has been convicted of multiple federal arson and civil rights charges for vandalizing and setting fire to a Latter-day Saints church, according to the Department of Justice (DOJ).

Stefan Day Rowold was convicted on Wednesday, Sept. 17, by a federal jury in Gulfport, Miss., on six counts of federal arson and civil rights charges. A sentencing hearing is set for Jan. 14, 2026.

On July 5, 2024, and July 7, 2024, Rowold vandalized and set fire to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Wiggins, Miss., according to a press release from the DOJ.

Trial evidence reportedly showed that he targeted the LDS Church because he disagreed with what he believed to be their religious views.
