PINEVILLE, La. (KALB) - Anyone who’s been around football in Louisiana at any point over the past six decades has likely come across Sam Goodwin.
“I still love the game,” Goodwin said.
Goodwin’s football career started at Pineville High School as a key offensive lineman on the Rebels’ only State Championship-winning team in 1960.
“It seemed like we were destined in that ’60 season to be champions,” Goodwin said.
After playing college football at Henderson State and coaching in Arkansas for 15 years, Goodwin returned home to Central Louisiana to take over as head coach for the Northwestern State Demons.
During his 17-year tenure at NSU, Goodwin won a program record 102 games and won four conference championships.
