A key witness in the Rashaun Jones murder trial has turned up alive amid Florida prosecutors’ claims that he had been dead for some time.

Paul Conner, a retired University of Miami writing instructor, once lived in the apartment complex where former Hurricanes star Bryan Pata was shot to death in 2006. He told police he heard a “pop” and saw someone running away from the parking lot entrance where Pata was shot.

He picked Pata’s teammate, Rashaun Jones, out of a lineup.

Conner was interviewed 13 years later in 2020 and again picked Jones out of a lineup before recalling what he saw at a 2022 bond hearing and during a 2023 deposition with lawyers.

Jones was arrested in 2021. He was charged with murder and has since pleaded not guilty, with prosecutors repeatedly telling the court that C
