BELMONT COUNTY, OH (WTRF) - State officials say a Martins Ferry facility that illegally stored thousands of tons of waste, including radioactive material, was cleaned up in May, but a 7News investigation found the bigger questions now center on what hasn’t been done, and why.

Local environmental advocates had been expressing their concerns about Austin Master Services for months before the cleanup began. Once state officials took over, Ohio Valley Allies Founder Jill Hunkler told 7News she was worried about the remediation process.

"I'm just hoping that the state here in Ohio is doing...a good job and taking every precaution they can, and to reassure the community that they're being safe during this process," Hunkler told 7News at the time.
