NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) - The Norfolk Tides wrapped up their season with more than just baseball at Harbor Park Friday night. They rebranded as Los Caballitos del Mar de Norfolk for a night to pay tribute to Hispanic Heritage.

The new name, which translates to “Norfolk Seahorses,” is part of Minor League Baseball’s Copa de la Diversión, or “Fun Cup” initiative. Starting in 2025, the Tides will play select games under the Caballitos identity, celebrating the region’s growing Hispanic and Latino community.

Pitcher Anthony Nunez grew up in a Cuban household in Miami. “My parents being from Cuba, and having a communist country, I put it into perspective how amazing our country is here in the United States,” Nunez said. “And it makes you appreciate being here more for sure.”
