(WAVY) — Andrea Gray was a nurse for several years and is now a patient care supervisor, but in 2018 she was a patient after she contracted sepsis following a medical procedure, but it wasn’t caught until after she experienced several scary symptoms.
"I had a lot of pain — nausea, vomiting, confusion," Gray said. "I can remember being so tired just to get up from the bed and get to the sink or get to the restroom, even to walk to the door was like the biggest ordeal of the day." A CT scan showed a perforated bowel, and the lining of her belly was severely inflamed. Over three-and-a-half months in the hospital, doctors performed seven surgeries.
