PORTLAND, Maine — The U.S. Marshals Service Maine Violent Offender Task Force (MVOTF) extradited a wanted Maine man from Mexico on Sept. 12 for several sexual assault charges.

Marc Assante, 37, of Buxton pleaded not guilty to seven counts of sexual assault charges in March 2023, according to a news release from MVOTF. Assante remained out on bail.

Assante didn't appear at a meeting to discuss setting his case for trial, as well as at a hearing on amending his bail, the release said. The Maine attorney general's office had asked the court to make Assante's bail conditions stricter to ensure his appearance.

After failing to appear, the York County Superior Court issued a warrant for Assante's arrest and requested assistance from the MVOTF in locating him.
