CHICAGO (WLS) -- A suspect wielding a knife is facing charges after he was shot by Chicago police officers in the Austin neighborhood Wednesday night, police said.

The incident took place at about 11 p.m. Wednesday in the 5200-block of West Madison Street.

Police said officers found a man armed with a large knife who was advancing toward civilians while walking in the street.

Police said the officers gave the suspect multiple verbal commands to drop the weapon. The suspect advanced toward officers, who used Tasers, which were ineffective, police said.

After the suspect continued toward the officers, an officer fired their gun and wounded the suspect, police said.
