RED LODGE, Mont. – Safety concerns have risen in Carbon County following a recent moose attack. Red Lodge Fire Rescue reported that they assisted two people attacked by a moose on Thursday morning.
The incident occurred when a couple was walking their dogs and encountered a cow, calf and bull moose. The cow moose, perceiving the dogs as a threat to its calf, chased them.
During the encounter, the couple sustained injuries and were taken to Bear Tooth Billings Clinic for medical attention.
Regarding moose safety, the National Park Service advises remaining unseen if you find yourself close to a moose in the wild.
If the moose notices you, soft communication and slow retreat are recommended.
Avoid aggressive behavior to assure the moose you're not a threat.
