Australia’s middle-distance gun Jess Hull has overcome a ‘dramatic’ first heat, an appeal, and a nasty gash to her leg to book a spot in Sunday’s 800m final at the World Athletics Championships .
The brave Hull ran an amazing semi-final on Friday night, smashing the Australian and Oceania 800m record with a time of one minute 57.15 seconds.

The 28-year-old only got through to the semis of the two-lap race after making a successful appeal when she was shoved over in the opening lap of her heat.
Now, after already winning bronze in her favoured 1500m earlier in the championships, she has become the first Australian woman to qualify for the 800m final at the world champs.
