HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - The Honolulu Fire Department responded to a 911 call about a sick hiker on the Diamond Head Crater Trail Friday morning.
According to HFD, a male hiker in his 30s became ill on the hike and was unable to go back down the trail on his own.
Shortly after 11 a.m., firefighters climbed up the trail on foot while another unit prepared the helicopter for an air evacuation.
Firefighters reached the hiker, conducted a medical assessment, and provided basic life support before he was safely airlifted off of the crater.
Upon landing, medical care was transferred to Emergency Medical Services.
