TAMPA — Wilyer Abreu, who’s been sidelined for almost a month with a calf strain, underwent what the Red Sox termed a “good workout” at Fenway Friday and plans to fly here Saturday to rejoin the team.

Next up: getting activated and being added to the active roster with 10 days to go in the regular season.

“We’ll decide what we’re going to do (Saturday),” said Alex Cora. “It was a good day for him. He’s ready to go. Now we just have to make a decision when.”

Cora said it was too soon to determine a schedule for Abreu going forward. It’s unclear whether he’ll be able to play on a daily basis right away, or whether the Sox might use him as a DH at least occasionally.
