MERIDEN, Conn. — Phase II of a massive construction project at the Interstate 91, Interstate 691 and Route 15 interchange is officially underway in Meriden , with Connecticut officials promising long-term improvements in safety and traffic flow, but some residents are already feeling the frustration.
The Connecticut Department of Transportation, or CTDOT, says the work will expand and modernize one of the state’s busiest highway corridors, which they say has been the site of hundreds of crashes over the years.
On Paddock Avenue, the bridge over Route 15 has been modified to one alternating lane, and that is expected to last nearly two years, as crews demolish and rebuild the bridge scheduled for Sunday.
