Chalmette won last year’s rivalry game against Holy Cross to snap a six-game series losing streak.

But the Tigers were able to pull away Friday after a long touchdown run by Ke’Rynn Smith in the fourth quarter to give them a 23-6 win against the Owls in a nondistrict game at Tad Gormley Stadium.

Holy Cross (3-0) led Chalmette (1-2) 17-6 midway through the final frame. The Owls drove into Tigers’ territory when Breez Wilson threw an interception to Brandon Green at the 9-yard line on fourth down.

Smith then broke multiple tackles in the backfield on the first play from scrimmage and raced 91 yards for the touchdown to put the Tigers ahead 23-6 with 5:18 left in the game. The senior running back, who has offers from multiple Power Four programs, ran for 193 yards and three scores on 26 ca
