LAPEER, MI — On a night when homecoming royalty was crowned, it seems that Lapeer wanted to put on a show for the newly-appointed Lightning royalty.

The first quarter proved challenging for both teams.

Lapeer’s defensive physicality first forced a fumble on Carman-Ainsworth’s first possession. And the Lightning offense proved it could score both through the air and on the ground.

Carman-Ainsworth returned a kick for a touchdown, and soon after, forced a fumble, which was scooped up and ran back for a Cavaliers’ touchdown. Then, the Cavs also pushed into the end zone for two two-point conversions.

After an early first quarter scare from Carman-Ainsworth, Lapeer found its composure for the rest of the first half, as their dominant performance flourished.
