(Alexandria, MN) -- The Alexandria Cardinals gained some revenge against Elk River Friday night, performing well in all facets of the game to overwhelm the visiting Elks 52-16 during the Homecoming football game at Viking Bank Field.

The Alexandria players came out motivated against an Elk River squad that is the defending Class AAAAA State Champion. On November 23rd of last year, the Elks topped the Cardinals, 33-24 in Prep Bowl XLII to win a third State Championship, all in Class AAAAA. In Friday's contest, the Cardinals scored touchdowns on each of their seven meaningful possessions to prevail in lopsided fashion. The Cards did not have to punt in the game. Alexandria's only possession that didn't result in a score came at the end of the first half on a kneel down to run out the clock.
