This month, Toronto architects, urban designers and academics picked their official list of places around the city that exemplify design excellence, including a new public art category whose inaugural winner honoured Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women.

The Toronto Urban Design Awards only happen every other year. An independent jury of industry professionals bring their expertise to recognize the projects that stand out in the city; from small parks to master plans and student projects.

Now in it's 35th year, the awards program has 10 categories with 24 winners — two of the categories are for projects that haven't yet been built and the other eight categories represent projects from within the last five years.
