Ann Arbor — Michigan had a game to prepare for this week. A significant game. The Big Ten opener at Nebraska with all hands on deck as the nonconference schedule is over and the focus is now on trying to win the league.

But it was associate head coach Biff Poggi handling the weekly Monday news conference. Poggi was the acting head coach last weekend against Central Michigan and will lead the team at Nebraska on Saturday. Head coach Sherrone Moore is fulfilling his two-game suspension stemming from an NCAA investigation into an illegal scouting scheme at Michigan. It required him to not only miss the two games, but he could have no contact with the team starting at 12:01 a.m. last Saturday until 11:59 p.m. after playing Nebraska.
