A Charles City teacher is among the Iowa educators under fire for comments posted online following the assassination of conservative activist Charlie Kirk on Sept. 10 at Utah Valley University in Orem, Utah.

Elizabeth Roth, a high school language arts teacher at the Charles City Community School District, ignited controversy in the Floyd County community with a Facebook post critical of Kirk. Roth commented on a post from another user addressing a school shooting in Evergreen, Colorado, that injured two students the same day Kirk was killed, saying those students, not Kirk, deserved her empathy.

She has since removed the post, and it was determined she had not violated district policies governing social media. The district considers the matter closed, said Superintenden
