A cyberattack on a service provider for check-in and boarding systems has caused significant disruptions at several major European airports, including London’s Heathrow, Brussels, and Berlin. The incident, which occurred on Friday night, has led to numerous flight delays and cancellations on Saturday.

Collins Aerospace, the company responsible for the affected systems, reported a technical issue impacting its software at select airports. RTX, the parent company of Collins Aerospace, acknowledged a "cyber-related disruption" but did not specify which airports were affected. In a statement, Collins Aerospace noted, "The impact is limited to electronic customer check-in and baggage drop and can be mitigated with manual check-in operations."

Brussels Airport confirmed that the attack rendered automated systems inoperable, necessitating manual check-in and boarding procedures. The airport stated, "This has a large impact on the flight schedule and will unfortunately cause delays and cancellations of flights... The service provider is actively working on the issue and trying to resolve the problem as quickly as possible."

Heathrow Airport, Europe’s busiest, also reported delays due to the technical issue. It advised passengers to check their flight status before arriving at the airport. Berlin Airport echoed this sentiment, stating, "Due to a technical issue at a system provider operating across Europe, there are longer waiting times at check-in. We are working on a quick solution."

Passengers traveling from the affected airports were urged to confirm their travel plans with airlines. Frankfurt Airport, Germany's largest, reported no disruptions from the cyberattack, and Zurich Airport officials stated they were not impacted either.

In Poland, Deputy Prime Minister Krzysztof Gawkowski assured that there were no threats to Polish airports. He stated, "Information on the situation is being continuously gathered, and Polish authorities are in contact with authorities in other countries."

As the situation develops, Collins Aerospace is working to restore full functionality to its systems as quickly as possible.
