WASHINGTON — The U.S. attorney whose office is investigating mortgage fraud allegations against New York Attorney General Letitia James was told he'll be removed from the position, a person familiar with the matter said Friday, as Trump administration officials push to bring criminal charges against the president's perceived foe.
The move to replace Erik Siebert, a career prosecutor in the Eastern District of Virginia, was described by a person who was not authorized to discuss the matter and spoke on condition of anonymity. No public announcement was made and spokespeople for Seibert's office and the Justice Department declined to comment.
